A volunteer Orthopaedic team – surgeon Dr Li-On Lam, nurse Lucy Harris, orthopaedic registrar Dr Georgina Waters, and support/logistics officer Cherrie Genat – provided medical assistance and training in Madagascar last month.

On the way to Madagascar, the team had a very positive meeting with the Australian High Commissioner in Mauritius, Her Excellency Ms Kate Chamley.  We thank the Embassy for supporting our programs in Madagascar over many years, through the Direct Aid Program.

In Toliara the team completed 79 consultations and 18 major operations, followed by daily ward rounds.

Dr Lam also presented a two day Arthroscopy Training Program to 15 orthopaedic specialists and trainees in Antananarivo, which received excellent feedback.

ADFA acknowledges ongoing support for its Madagascar programs from Base Toliara, BlackEarth Minerals and Air Mauritius (for donated extra baggage).
