The Ballarat-based volunteer Urology team of Dr Lydia Johns Putra (Urologist and team leader), Dr Craig Mitchell (Anaesthetist – and amazing photographer!) and Nick Veldhuis (Theatre Nurse) visited Tulear in south-western Madagascar to provide a much needed urology service and surgeon training for two weeks.  This is the third team of urology volunteers to visit Madagascar in 2019.

The team conducted 67 consultations and 44 surgical procedures on 38 men with prostate enlargement, urethral stricture and other conditions of the lower urinary tract.

Big thanks to the Yarrawonga Hospital, Cook, Defries, Bard, Ansell, Boston Scientific and Crawford’s Pharmacy Ballarat for donated equipment and supplies which ensured the success of this team mission.   ADFA acknowledges funding support from SJOG Subiaco, the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and increased baggage allowance from Air Mauritius.
