The University of Gondar Hospital is a 400 bed university hospital with a large orthopaedics and traumatology department.  Following a site visit by ADFA’s CEO, Dr Graham Forward, in March 2023, it was observed that the sanitation facilities of the orthopaedic ward required renovation, to meet hospital standards and improve peri-operative infection rates and overall length of stay for the patients.

The successful project, which completely renovated the staff and patient bathrooms, the instrument cleaning areas and locker room, and orthopaedic ward painting, has been welcomed at the Gondar University Hospital in northern Ethiopia.

“On behalf of the Hospital community and the engineering service team, we are very grateful for your cooperation and financial assistance. The completion of both toilets and the painting is a further addition in hygiene and accessibility for both the medical staff and the attendees.”, Director of Engineering Services, Mr Wondwossen Beyene.

The upgraded facilities have improved privacy and safety for patients and staff, and will reduce post-operative wound infections and the spread of infectious diseases, due to the improved hygiene conditions within the wards.

We are very grateful to long time ADFA supporter, Mr Bill Grierson of The Very Good Foundation (via Perpetual) for providing a grant for this project.
