Huge thanks to the volunteer Urology team of Dr Sue Chapman (Team Leader/Urologist), Karen Grieves (Theatre Nurse), Dr Jamal Tashkandi (Anaesthetist) and Dr Michael Wines (Urologist). The assignment was a great success, with a number of challenges due to flight changes and cancellations.

Over three weeks, the team managed 90 patient consultations, performed a whopping 48 operations in 9 days, and provided post surgical care through daily ward rounds.

A Malagasy urology trainee worked with the team for 10 days of invaluable training and assistance.  Mentoring and training was also provided to nurses and anaesthetic technicians, and equipment and supplies were donated to several hospitals in Toliara and Antananarivo.

This assignment was supported by SJOG Foundation, DS Biomedical, and a Direct Aid Program grant from the Australian Embassy in Mauritius.  ADFA also acknowledges ongoing support for its Madagascar programs from Base Toliara, BlackEarth Minerals, St John of God Subiaco Hospital and Air Mauritius.
