ADFA volunteer Gastroenterology team of Dr Digby Cullen (gastroenterologist and team lead), and nurses Leah Willey and Bianca Meyer, were accompanied by Hepatitis B Free representatives, Prof Alice Lee, Prof David Hilmers and Sue Huntley, for a volunteer medical assignment in Madagascar.

The team spent a very busy two weeks visiting four cities, with great outcomes:

  • Assisting with the establishment of a new Endoscopy Unit at CHU Morafeno, Toamasina (east coast) and providing equipment, supplies and training.
  • Training for 33 medical personnel.
  • Completing 26 surgical procedures and daily post operative care rounds.
  • Visiting three of the other five Endoscopy units supported by ADFA.
