Huge thanks to Dr Risto Todorov, an orthopaedic surgeon from North Macedonia, for volunteering at the Haramaya University Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.

Over two weeks, Risto provided training to 12 orthopaedic trainees and 2 surgeons, assisted during 17 operations, many consultations and daily ward rounds.

He was joined in Harar by Wondimagegn Tilahun and Lidiya Samuel, Ethiopian nurse training specialists from the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa.

Wonde and Lidiya presented 5 days of Infection Control Training to 20 nurses, including hands on training during operations, ward rounds and patient reviews.

The hospital appreciated the training, “The value of these kinds of trainings can’t be overstated in terms of raising the knowledge, skill and morale of the nursing staff. They are eager to apply it in their day-to-day practices.” (Dr Bruh Kefale, Head of Orthopaedics)
