Huge thanks to Dr Emerik Trinajstic, Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Donna Larsen, Nurse Practitioner / Wound Management Specialist, for volunteering for a recent 2 week assignment at two hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The main focus of the team visit was training; to build knowledge and capacity in orthopaedics and wound management for surgeons, doctors and nurses.

Emerik provided training to 35 orthopaedic specialist trainees and 10 junior doctors mainly on lower limb surgery, and mentored/assisted with 7 surgical procedures, 70 outpatient consultations, and 5 ward round sessions.

Donna and Eyerusalem Amanu, in-country nurse training specialist, provided 9 sessions of wound management training to a total of 38 nurses, and hands on training to nurses during ward rounds and patient reviews.
