A volunteer orthopaedics team recently returned from a two week mission to Ethiopia providing training and medical assistance at hospitals in Hossana and Addis Ababa.  The team were warmly welcomed for ADFA’s first visit to the Nigist Eleni Mohammed Memorial Referral Hospital in Hossana where the team also completed a scoping study.

The team of Tony Jeffries, surgeon; nurses Stephanie Macdonald, Bonnie Millard, Eyerusalem (Jerry) Amanu, and physiotherapists, Max Sadka and Anna Roberts, gave theoretical and hands on training to doctors, surgeons, medical students, nurses and physiotherapists to improve the orthopaedic care for patients, and completed 65 clinical consultations, 15 major surgeries, and daily ward rounds.

Huge thanks to Southcare (Lifecare) and St John Of God Murdoch for generously supporting this mission, and to Emirates Airline Foundation for donating flights and increased baggage allowance.
