For the first time in over 3 years an Orthopaedic Team – surgeon Dr Li-On Lam, nurse Lucy Harris, orthopaedic registrar Dr Tom Christiner (recipient of Stryker Travelling Fellowship Award), and support/logistics officer Cherrie Genat – provided medical training and assistance in Tulear, Madagascar for two weeks.

After reorganising all the supplies, consults were held with 145 patients, many with neglected trauma and infections.  27 operative cases were performed, including 2 patients with complex injuries which required multiple procedures, and a gunshot injury which resulted in open tibial fracture.

Huge thanks to our medical volunteers for their selfless dedication to our programs.

ADFA also acknowledges ongoing support for its Madagascar programs from Base Toliara, BlackEarth Minerals, St John of God Subiaco Hospital and Air Mauritius (for donated extra baggage).
