Thanks to the help of volunteers, over a busy three weeks in June we packed three sea containers of donated medical equipment for partner hospitals in East Africa:

  • Ayder Referral Hospital in Mekelle, in northern Ethiopia, and
  • two for Madagascar – for regional public hospitals in Fianarantsoa and Toliara, and supplies for our ADFA medical volunteer program.

Nearly 600 items were loaded, including 63 hospital beds & mattresses, 14 examination beds, 30 wheelchairs for disabled children, ventilators, defibrillators, patient monitors, scrubs, and many boxes of PPE and theatre supplies.  All these items were donated by private and public hospitals / donors.

Thanks to our volunteer packers – Graeme, Judy, Nick and Paul – and to the team at AWH for forklift assistance and storage support.

We acknowledge support from The Harry Secomb Foundation for one of the Madagascar containers.
