After 5 years an ENT team, led by ENT Surgeon Dr Latif Kadhim, was delighted to return to Madagascar to provide medical training and services at 3 hospitals.  Dr Kadhim was joined by Marika Brandtberg (Theatre Nurse), Dr Peter Baumgartner (Anaesthetist) and Alison Cook (Audiologist).

During the 2 weeks the team faced considerable challenges, including flight delays and heavy rainfall.  However, the assignment was highly productive with 93 clinical consultations, 24 surgical procedures, 79 audiology assessments and 9 hearing aids fitted.  The team was joined in Toliara by a local surgeon, Dr Norbert, who received 7 days of hands-on surgical training.  Anaesthetic and nurse training were also provided to staff at the hospitals.

Huge thanks to our medical volunteers for giving their time and dedication to this program, and to Medtronic, Tristel and Stryker for equipment and consumable donations used by the team.

Thanks also to Air Mauritius for support with extra baggage, and our in-country supporters Base Toliara (Base Resources) and BlackEarth Minerals (Evion Group).
